Everything you need to take photos with Minox cameras: cut film, load cassettes, develop, and digitize. Step by step.

1

Cut film

Minox film (9.2 mm) is cut from standard 35mm or 120 film. Our film cutter has an integrated safety cover and is ready to use immediately.

Tip: Film length for cutting

Approx. 65 cm per 36-exposure Minox film. The Basic Cutter splits a 35mm roll lengthwise into two 9.2 mm strips along the full length of the film. That is enough for four complete 36-exposure Minox films plus two shorter films with 15–18 exposures, approx. €3 per film instead of €26 for original Minox film.

Caution: The film cutter contains sharp blades. Proceed carefully when opening it for the first time. The blades are replaceable; push them out from underneath.

2

Load the cassette

Load the cut film into the reusable 8x11 cassette. Compatible with Minox A, B, BL, C, EC, LX, TLX, CLX, and Yashica Atoron.

Light vs. dark: When can you handle what?

Never expose unprocessed film to light. Here, we clearly explain what you can do in daylight and what must be done in the dark.

Allowed in daylight:

  • Practice with a scrap piece of film
  • Prepare an empty cassette
  • Handle the still-sealed 35mm canister
  • Handle the fully closed cassette and place it in the camera

Only in complete darkness:

  • As soon as the 35mm canister is open: pull out the film, cut it to 9.2 mm, and load it into the cassette
  • Close the cassette

Only the sealed cassette is light-tight again. From then on, you can continue working normally in daylight.

3

Developing

8x11 film (9.2 mm) does not fit standard reels. Our developing reels are compatible with Jobo and Paterson tanks and enable even development.

4

Scanning & digitizing

The tiny 8x11 negative (88 mm²) requires maximum resolution. Camera scanning with a macro lens delivers ~12,000 ppi, better than any flatbed scanner.

Batteries & rechargeable batteries

Minox A and B work entirely mechanically without a battery. Models with a built-in CdS light meter, however, require a replacement for the old mercury battery.

Which battery does my Minox need?

  • Minox A, B: No battery needed (mechanical)
  • Minox BL: PX675 (1.35V): CdS light meter
  • Minox C, EC, LX, TLX, CLX: PX27 (5.6V): CdS light meter & electronics
