How we collect and check reviews

Who can leave a review

After shipping, we ask by email for a review of the ordered items, except for refunded or returned ones. The link in that email belongs to exactly one order. Every review submitted through it carries the label “Verified purchase”, except for parts from our testing programme.

Older reviews

Until we switched to our own system, Judge.me collected reviews for us. We carried them over with their names, stars, text, date, photos and our replies; as with all reviews, names are shortened (first name and initial of the surname). The label “Verified” appears on reviews that Judge.me had labelled as verified. According to Judge.me, it assigns this label automatically based on how a review was submitted, for example through the review request after an order.

Check before publication

We read every new review before it appears. We only hold back spam, insults, content taken from others and texts unrelated to the product. The star rating is never a reason. Photos sent in reply to our photo request are checked automatically and attached; we look at videos and unclear cases ourselves.

Discount codes for reviews

For a published review after an order we send a discount code for the next order, regardless of the star rating, one per order. The amount depends only on whether text, a photo or a video is included; if a photo or video added later lifts the order to a higher level, a higher code follows and an unused earlier code becomes invalid. We point this out above the reviews, and on the home page with a short line below the review carousel and below the review banner.

Reviews from Amazon

Some older reviews were originally written by customers on Amazon; Judge.me had imported them for us. They carry the label “Imported from Amazon”, are not considered verified and are not included in the average, the count or the star distribution.

Testing programme

Some customers receive parts free of charge to test them and review them honestly. We invite them at random from customers who have already bought parts for the same camera system from us and subscribed to our newsletter. We prescribe neither the star rating nor the content, we publish critical reviews too, and the parts do not have to be returned. Instead of “Verified purchase”, these reviews carry the note “Part received free of charge through our testing programme”. They are included in the average, and their number is shown below it (“including … from our testing programme”). Testers do not receive a discount code as a thank-you for their review.

Shared reviews

A few products that differ only in size share their reviews. This is stated at the average and at each review, together with the product the review was written for.
