- Your camera doesn’t recognize the lens? We provide the stencil so your Leica knows what’s mounted up front.
- Missing EXIF data and image corrections? Enable automatic vignetting and distortion correction as well as correct metadata.
- Image stabilizer (IBIS) working inaccurately? Especially important for SL2/SL3: IBIS only works effectively with the correct focal length.
- Frustrated with the wrong pens? Conventional markers shine too much for the sensor – our set includes the tested, matte black special pen.
Scope of delivery
- 1x 6-bit encoder (precision stencil for clipping on)
- 1x Edding 8400 special marker (permanent, matte black)
Technical specifications
- Material Encoder: PLA+ (technical plastic)
- Fit: Precisely designed for Leica M mounts
- Marker: Edding 8400 (selected for minimal reflection)
- Manufacturing: Made in Germany
Description
Make your classic treasures smart. With this 6-bit encoder kit, you can easily code your manual M-mount lenses yourself (whether older Leicas, Voigtländer, or Zeiss). The result: Your digital Leica (M, SL, Q with adapter) recognizes the focal length, stores it in the EXIF data, and applies internal image corrections.
We learned: Not all pens are the same. Many customers had problems with conventional felt-tip pens because their color often shines and reflects the sensor light in the mount instead of absorbing it. That’s why you get the Edding 8400 from us. It offers exactly the right matte finish so the optical sensor reliably reads the code.
The encoder simply clips onto the mount and serves as a precise stencil for coloring the dots (no drilling needed!). The coding is permanent enough for everyday use but can be removed without residue if needed.
Tip: On some lenses, there is a screw at a coding position. You can simply fill it with a dab of white paint and – if the code requires – paint over it in black afterwards.
Compatibility
Fits all lenses with Leica M mount. Choose in the table the lens closest to yours (focal length and aperture).
