The PC sync cap is the small cap that is almost always missing from a used camera after decades. Without a cover, the contacts slowly oxidise, and when you then want to connect a studio flash, firing can become unreliable.
The PC sync socket is standardised across manufacturers to the Prontor-Compur thread. This means one cap fits Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Pentax, Minolta, Contax, Leica and common medium format cameras alike. The closed socket gives a tidy look.
