  • Keeps the film strip flat across its entire width: The Dual-S curve tensions the film evenly, without glass plates and without Newton rings. Sharpness right into the corners.
  • Feed the film through from the side: Insert the entire roll from the side, advance it frame by frame, and pull it out on the other side. The Top Plate stays in place. You only need to lift it for short strips and when changing formats.
  • Blocks light entering from the sides: The 5-layer system with Adapter Plate (bottom) and lens hood (top, included in the Pro and Full Sets) prevents stray light and loss of contrast.
  • Protects your negatives from scratches: The film channel touches the film only at the edges, 1–2mm each. Rubber feet (2mm, Shore 70A) prevent slipping and protect the light source.
  • One system, multiple formats: Standard 24×36mm in the Basic Set, expandable with magnetic Top Plates to Half Frame (18×24mm), Panorama X-Pan (24×65mm), and more.

Compatibility

Film:

  • All 35mm negatives (color and black and white), film strips, and individual frames
  • Compatible with film from all 35mm cameras, such as Canon AE-1, Pentax K1000, or Nikon F3

Light sources (universally compatible):

  • CineStill CS-LITE / CS-LITE+ (SpectraColor), the CS-LITE is included in the Pro/Full Set
  • Negative Supply Light Source (Basic/MK1/MK2/Pro)
  • Kaiser Slimlite Plano
  • Raleno LED panel (e.g. PLV-S116)
  • Jack Scanlight
  • Any illuminated surface ≥ 73.2 × 120mm (= footprint of the 35mm Base Plate; smaller surfaces may also work with limitations, in which case the Plate extends beyond the light)

Accessories (Ausgeknipst ecosystem):

  • Copy Stand, included in the Full Set
  • Expandable with: Half Frame Top, Panorama X-Pan Top
  • Lens hood 35 with spacers, included in the Pro/Full Set
  • CSL Adapter 35 for CineStill Lite, included in the Pro/Full Set

This film holder uses a narrow 35mm channel to guide the film, covering the perforation holes (sprocket holes). If you want the Lomography look with visible perforations, you need our Sprocket Film Holder with a wider channel and adapted exposure window.

You need a tripod head for the Copy Stand

This applies to the Full Set; the Basic and Pro Sets do not include a Copy Stand. The Copy Stand has a 3/8" screw on top. A tripod head is only included in the “Full Set + leveling base” version. The setup is: Copy Stand, tripod head on top, camera on top of that. You use the joint to align the camera exactly parallel to the negative, which is why there is no fixed camera mount on the profile.

Virtually any ball or geared head will fit, since 3/8" is the standard on the underside of the head. If you have a tripod, simply unscrew its head and use it here. If you do not have your own head, our leveling base fits directly onto the 3/8" screw. If you choose “Full Set + leveling base” above, it comes right in the package.

Description

With this 35mm film holder, you can scan your negatives yourself using a DSLR or mirrorless camera: a modular 5-layer system that grows with your workflow. The Base Plate guides the film through a channel with a Dual-S curve that keeps the strip flat without glass plates. The film is touched only at the edges, 1–2mm each. In normal use, you feed the strip into the channel from the side, advance it frame by frame, and pull it out again on the other side. The magnetic Top Plate stays in place. You only need to lift it for short strips that cannot be fed through and when changing formats: the Top Plate is the mask. The integrated rubber feet (2mm, Shore 70A) provide a secure grip on any light source without slipping or scratching it.

The system grows with your workflow: from the Basic entry-level setup with one Top Plate, through the Pro Set with CineStill CS-LITE light source, Adapter Plate, and lens hood, to the complete scanning station with Copy Stand. Then everything except the camera, lens, and tripod head is included. Additional Top Plates for Half Frame and Panorama X-Pan are available separately. Whatever film formats your analog journey takes you to, the system remains expandable.

Which set is right for you?

You can find the complete layer setup with all components and direct shop links in the product range diagram. Guides and technical background on film scanning are available in the blog overview.

In testing

Robert Sakowski tested our set against his previous film holder over several rolls and switched over because of its stability on the light source, magnetic mask for changing formats, and flat film positioning. Watch his video (11 minutes, German).

Alles wunderbar!

    5. Last not least habe ich dann eine gute Einstellung gefunden.
