Leveling base for copy stand and tripod (3/8" to 1/4", up to 10 kg)

• Fine alignment via the hemisphere: The camera can be tilted up to 15° in any direction and rotated 360° until the sensor is parallel to the original.
• Screws directly onto the Copy Stand: A 3/8" female thread at the bottom for the camera mount, and on top the 1/4" camera screw that virtually every DSLR and mirrorless camera expects.
• More load capacity than the setup needs: The base holds 10 kg, significantly more than the approx. 1.5 kg camera load recommended for the Copy Stand.

Description

The Copy Stand has a 3/8" screw on top and no built-in camera mount. That is intentional: every copy stand flexes by a few tenths of a millimetre under the weight of camera and lens, even the sturdiest one. The levelling base between stand and camera compensates for this. You tilt the camera on the half ball until the sensor is exactly parallel to the negative, then tighten it. Without this levelling, you get one side sharp and the other not.

The spirit level shows you whether the camera is level. It measures against gravity, not against the original. Whether the sensor is really parallel to the negative is something you check with the alignment mirror. You can get it right here: "With mirror" variant. For the Copy Stand, the levelling base and alignment mirror are also available together as the "Copy Stand + levelling base + alignment mirror" variant.

If you already have a tripod, you don't necessarily need this base: unscrew your existing ball or geared head and put it on the Copy Stand. The levelling base is meant for anyone who doesn't have a second head lying around or doesn't want to refit the stand every time.

The levelling base is a bought-in product, not our own manufacture. We chose it because it carries 10 kg, many times the load on the Copy Stand, and fits the camera mount without an adapter.
