The cover cap protects the winder coupler and the motor drive connection of your Canon New F-1. When you're out without a motor drive, it closes the opening on the camera base and keeps dust from getting into the body.
The cap is designed specifically for the Canon New F-1, so it sits cleanly on the connection. It does not fit the purely mechanical predecessor models.
