The rubber ring centers a smaller 675 zinc-air cell in the larger PX625 battery compartment; with its 1.4V, it is close to the original voltage.

“Does the adapter fit every PX625 battery compartment?”

No. It only works in cameras that draw battery current from the top and bottom. If your camera draws current from the sides, you need a different adapter.

“Why not use a standard 1.5V alkaline cell?”
