Leveling base for copy stand and tripod (3/8" to 1/4", up to 10 kg)

• Fine alignment via the hemispherical joint: The camera can be tilted by up to 15° in any direction and rotated 360° until the sensor is parallel to the subject.
• Screws directly onto the Copy Stand: A 3/8" female thread on the bottom for mounting the camera, and a 1/4" camera screw on top, as expected by virtually every DSLR and mirrorless camera.
• More load capacity than the setup requires: The base supports 10 kg, significantly more than the approximately 1.5 kg camera load recommended for the Copy Stand.

Description

The Copy Stand has a 3/8" screw on top and no permanently attached camera mount. This is intentional: Every copy stand flexes by a few tenths of a millimeter under the weight of the camera and lens, even the most stable one. The leveling base between the stand and the camera compensates for this. Tilt the camera on the hemispherical joint until the sensor is exactly parallel to the negative, then tighten it. Without this adjustment, one side will be in focus and the other will not.

The bubble level shows you whether the camera is level. It measures against gravity, not against the subject. To check whether the sensor is truly parallel to the negative, use the alignment mirror. You can get it directly here: the “With mirror” version. The Copy Stand is also available with the leveling base and alignment mirror together as the “Copy Stand + Tripod Head + Alignment Mirror” version.

If you already have a tripod, you may not need this base: Unscrew the existing ball head or geared head and attach it to the Copy Stand. The leveling base is intended for anyone who does not have a spare head lying around or does not want to equip the stand from scratch every time.

The leveling base is a sourced product, not manufactured in-house. We selected it because it supports 10 kg—many times more than the load placed on the Copy Stand—and fits the camera mount without an adapter.
