Why the window does not span the full film width

All three Top Plates mask the image area, not the full film width. 120 film is 61.5 mm wide, while the largest window (6×9) measures 56 mm. The difference is the area where the holder guides and keeps the strip flat; a wider window would remove this support, causing the film to sag and the center of the image to become unsharp. We therefore do not offer a special plate that exposes the perforations or edge markings. If you need the edges, place the negative between two anti-Newton glass plates and scan it frame by frame.

Each Top Plate masks the exposure window precisely to the selected medium format, optimized for Mamiya 645/RB67/RZ67, Pentax 645/67, Bronica ETR/SQ, Fuji GW690, and other 120 cameras. Magnetic mounting enables switching between all formats in seconds.
