- Replacement for the lost original cover: The cover on the mju II is attached to a thin metal pin and is the part most often missing from this camera.
- Fits more securely than the original: The locking geometry engages more firmly so the cover stays closed in your backpack — open it with your fingernail at the lower edge.
- Installation using the original hinge pin: Pull the camera’s pin out downward, replace the cover, and push the pin back in — no glue, no screws.
Design and idea: pawelmtw, published on MakerWorld under Creative Commons BY-NC. We manufacture and sell the cover with the designer’s express permission. With your own 3D printer, you can make the part yourself — here, you get it fully printed and finished.
Compatibility
- Olympus mju II (also written as µ[mju:] II or mju 2 outside the USA)
- Olympus Stylus Epic (the name of the same camera in the USA)

Description
On the Olympus mju II — sold as the Stylus Epic in the USA — almost the same part is missing after thirty years: the battery compartment cover. It sits on a thin metal pin at the bottom of the body, the locking tab becomes looser with every battery change, and eventually the cover catches when you pack the camera away. Without it, the CR123A slips out of the compartment while carrying the camera, and the camera stops working in the middle of a roll.
This cover is not a replica of the original. Its locking geometry is designed to fit more securely so it stays closed during use. There is a trade-off: it is harder to open than the original cover. To open it, place your fingernail against the lower edge.
Made in-house in Würzburg — every cover is hand-finished and inspected before shipping.
Installation
The new cover runs on the camera’s original metal pin; a replacement pin is not needed.
- Pull the metal pin at the battery compartment downward using needle-nose pliers or tweezers.
- Remove the old cover and place the new one in the same position.
- Push the pin back upward until it sits flush.
