Description

Your Pentax Spotmatic needs a battery that delivers a constant 1.35 V, and from the factory that meant a mercury cell. Those cells are no longer on sale, so this set mechanically adapts P312 zinc-air hearing aid batteries to the size the camera needs: a rubber centering ring holds the smaller cell in the battery compartment, and under load it puts out a steady 1.4 V or so, only slightly more than the 1.35 V the light meter was designed for. It fits the Fujica ST601 and ST701 just as well.

Electrically, the zinc-air cells are a direct replacement for the old PX400, EPX400 and V400PX types. Your light meter reads correctly without you having to adjust the camera. The rubber ring takes care of the contact.

Note: zinc-air batteries are activated by peeling off the seal. Wait about a minute before putting them in your camera.

Frequently asked questions

Why not a regular 1.5 V alkaline? Alkaline cells start out at 1.5 V and drop off over their life. The Spotmatic’s light meter is designed for a constant 1.35 V and gives incorrect readings with alkalines.

How do I activate the zinc-air cells? Peel off the seal, wait about a minute, then put them in the camera.

What’s included in the set? The “2x adapters & batteries” option contains 2 rubber centering rings and 6 P312 zinc-air batteries. The refill pack contains 6 batteries without rings.

Which battery types does the set replace? PX400, EPX400 and V400PX.
