Description
You need a 55mm lens hood exactly when light coming in at an angle hits the front element in backlight or low sun and spreads as a haze over the image. You screw the hood directly into the 55mm filter thread of your lens and block this stray light before it enters the glass.
It is sized so that it causes no vignetting in the image corners with classic standard focal lengths between 50mm and 57mm. It also sits in front of the front element as a buffer and protects the glass from knocks and scratches.
