Finding a suitable LR44 adapter for your Kiev 88 TTL prism is difficult, as the originally intended battery types have long been hard to come by. This adapter holds four common LR44 button cells and secures them in the battery compartment.

It is built for the “Type B” version of the prism. It supplies the required 6V and ensures clean contact, so you can make full use of your medium format camera's light metering again.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the right adapter for my Kiev 88 prism? This one is built for Type B with Ø 15 x 25 mm. There is also Type A, which is slightly larger. Measure the battery compartment of your prism or send us a photo, and we'll tell you which one fits.

Which batteries do I need? Four LR44, which together provide 6V. They are included and can be bought anywhere. A note on this: on later prisms, three individual button cells go directly into the battery compartment. Such prisms don't need an adapter at all; you simply insert three loose LR44 or SR44 cells. This adapter is for the older design with the one-piece stick battery.

Does the light meter work like the original again with this? Yes, provided the prism's electronics are still in good order. Four LR44 provide 6V, slightly more than the original stick battery with around 5V. For the light meter, this is the common replacement. If your prism still doesn't meter afterwards, the power supply is not the cause.
