This LR50 or PX1A battery adapter, together with the LR44 battery (included), is a mercury-free replacement for the once-popular mercury oxide cell MR50 (or PX1), which was commonly used in cameras and carriage clocks. Mercury cells are now banned due to their toxicity and for environmental reasons.
Together with an LR44 or SR44 battery, the adapter provides 1.5 volts, which is higher than the 1.35 volts of the original mercury cell. Most devices can handle the slightly higher voltage and work perfectly. Those who need 1.35 volts output voltage can also use the adapter with a type 675 hearing aid battery.
