The PX27 (also V27PX, EPX27, 4AG13, 4LR43) was a 4.5V alkaline battery used in compact cameras from the 1970s onwards. Original batteries are hardly available anymore or cost a lot. Here you’ll find the right adapters depending on your camera.

Quick check: Which adapter?

Two different adapters — one battery type

The PX27 was used in various camera series that have different battery compartment geometries. That’s why there are two specialized adapters instead of a universal solution:

  • Minox 35 series (GT, EL, GL, LX, PE, EC, TLX) → Minox-specific adapter with 4x SR44 button cells
  • Rollei 35 SE, 35 TE, A110 → Rollei-specific adapter with 3x LR44 button cells

Attention: The adapters are not interchangeable. The Minox adapter does not fit the Rollei and vice versa. Check which camera you have before ordering.

PX27 adapter for Rollei 35 SE, TE & A110

Specifically developed for the Rollei 35 SE and 35 TE — the only Rollei 35 models that use a PX27 battery. Also compatible with the Rollei A110 pocket camera.

Important difference: Rollei 35 is not the same as Rollei 35

The earlier Rollei 35, 35 S, 35 T, and 35 B use a PX625 battery (1.35V). Only the later models 35 SE and 35 TE were switched to PX27 (4.5V). If your Rollei 35 has an "S" or "T" (without "E"), you need a PX625 adapter instead.

Compatible with

  • Rollei 35 SE
  • Rollei 35 TE
  • Rollei 35 LED
  • Rollei A110

Facts about the PX27

What was the PX27?

The PX27 was a cylindrical 4.5V alkaline battery (dimensions: approx. 13 x 25.2 mm). It was produced from the 1960s by Eveready, Mallory, and Varta. The designation varies by manufacturer: V27PX (Varta), EPX27 (Energizer), 4AG13, 4LR43, No. 27. Essentially, it consists of three LR43/AG12 cells connected in series.

Why is the PX27 no longer regularly available?

Unlike the PX625 (which contained mercury and was therefore banned), the PX27 was a regular alkaline battery. It wasn’t banned — manufacturers stopped production because demand dropped after the end of analog photography. Some suppliers still produce small batches, but at high prices (often over 10 EUR each).

Why not just insert 3x LR44 loose?

3x LR44 cells add up to 4.5V — the correct voltage. But without an adapter, the fit isn’t right: the cells wobble in the battery compartment, contact is unreliable, and corrosion can occur at the connections. The adapter secures the cells in the exact PX27 geometry and ensures clean contact at both poles.
