  • Replacement for the extinct mercury battery: In the battery compartment of your Rollei 35 SE or 35 TE, the adapter takes the place of the no longer available PX27 / V27PX and is fitted with four common button cells, SR44 (6.2V combined) or LR44 (6V combined).
  • Button cells included in every variant: Four SR44 and one SR43 are included, you insert them and keep shooting.
  • Stable readings thanks to silver oxide: The included SR44 cells have a constant discharge curve, so the light meter measures consistently.
  • Additional SR43 for tight battery compartments: If the adapter with four SR44 cells fits too tightly, you swap one of them for the included SR43, which is 1,2 mm flatter.

Keep button cells away from children, both new and used. Swallowing can lead to internal chemical burns, perforation of tissue and death. Severe burns can occur within 2 hours. If you suspect a button cell has been swallowed, seek medical help immediately.

Compatibility

Specifically tested for:

  • Rollei 35 SE (not for Rollei 35 S or Classic)
  • Rollei 35 TE (not for Rollei 35 T)

The models without an E in the name (35 S, 35 T, Classic) have a different battery compartment. For these there is the PX625 battery adapter.

Not suitable for Rollei 35 LED, A110 and E110. These cameras take the battery directly in a round compartment, and the adapter on this page is a square battery holder that does not fit in there. For the 35 LED there is the cylindrical PX27 adapter, for the A110 we currently have no suitable adapter.

Description

Finding the right battery for your Rollei 35 SE or 35 TE is difficult, because the original PX27 with its 5,6V mercury cells disappeared from the market years ago. This adapter holds four standard SR44 button cells. Together they deliver 6,2V.

Installation instructions

  1. Remove the old battery holder: press the ejector on the camera and pull the holder out.
  2. Insert four SR44 first: hold the cells by the edge and insert them all facing the same way. The adapter and cells are marked + and −: the plus side of the cells faces the + on the adapter, so in the camera it points towards the lens. With four SR44 the adapter has the most capacity.
  3. Slide in the adapter: push it into the battery compartment the same way the original holder sat and press it into place. If it fits too tightly, the included SR43 helps (see “FAQ”).
  4. Check the voltage: press the shutter release lightly. If the red or green LED lights up in the viewfinder, the voltage is sufficient.

The Rollei 35 SE and 35 TE are over 40 years old. We accept no liability for defects within the camera itself. If the camera still shows faults despite fresh cells, it is worth having it serviced by a camera technician.

Frequently asked questions

“The adapter sits too tightly with four SR44 or won't go in. What can I do?”

Take out one SR44 and insert the included SR43 instead. It has the same diameter and the same voltage, but is 1,2 mm thinner. Still, try four SR44 first: with three SR44 and one SR43 the set lasts less long, because the smaller SR43 determines the runtime.

“6,2V instead of 5,6V: Is the exposure still correct?”

Yes. The light meters of the SE/TE series are electronically regulated. The small voltage difference is negligible in practice, and the cameras handle it.

“Can I use LR44 instead of SR44?”

Yes, LR44 have the same dimensions as SR44. SR44 silver oxide has the more constant discharge curve, which is why these are included.

“No LED in the viewfinder, the camera doesn't respond. What should I do?”

First check that all plus sides face the + on the adapter; otherwise reinsert the stack. Then clean the contacts in the battery compartment with a metal object (flat-head screwdriver, key). If other functions don't work either, the problem is probably in the camera. In the meantime, an external light meter can help, for example a smartphone app.

“The batteries are flat after hours or days. What's causing this?”

Most analogue cameras are very power-efficient; depending on use, the cells should last 2–6 months. If they drain much faster, this points to a problem in the camera electronics (old circuits often have leakage currents).

“Where can I get new button cells?”

SR44 and SR43 are available from watchmakers and online, SR44 also in drugstores and from us in a 4-pack.

That's why, since mid-September, the adapter also comes with a slightly shorter SR43: if four SR44 won't fit, use three SR44 plus the SR43.     Perfect battery replacement solution for Rollei 35 TE and SE.

    First things first: the use of the Battery Adapter is today's excellent solution and best alternative to the obsolete alkaline PX27 batteries. This adapter allows the use of modern silver oxide batteries which offer significant advantages (longer life, constant stable discharge, etc., etc.) over the alkaline batteries.

    Second: with all due respect, I would suggest some modifications in the description of the product (which, in my humble opinion, is somewhat misleading), as follows:
    1. the adapter allows the use of "3x SR44 plus 1x SR33" batteries to fit snuggly/perfectly in the adapter/camera's battery case; 4x SR44 batteries certainly DO NOT FIT (too high).
    2. the Rollei 35 TE and SE have a built-in voltage regulator which reduces the total voltage of 6.2V provided by this adapter down to the exact 5.6V required by the light meter, so the latter is not damaged.
    3. the scope of delivery too (4x SR44) should perhaps be replaced with this "3x SR44 plus 1x SR33" solution, to eliminate completely the confusion.
    4. the above solution is for Rollei 35 TE/SE too, not only for Minox 35 (your description says: "Note: Since the Minox 35 has a built-in voltage regulator, it handles voltages between 5.6 - 6.2 V.").

    All in all I am extremely happy with this Ausgeknipst adapter which allowed me to find out that the light meter of my Rollei 35 is working precisely.

    I highly recommend this adapter.

    Hey Henning, dass 4 x LR44 passen und 4 x SR44 ist ein Zufall (die Zellen haben eigentlich die gleiche Höhe). Damit es in Zukunft nicht mehr zum dem Höhenproblem kommt liefern wir ab sofort 4 x SR44 (die laufen stabiler als die LR44) und dazu eine kürzere SR43. Je nachdem wie knapp das jeweilige Batteriefach ist, kann man so entweder die 4x SR44 oder 3x SR44 + 1xSR43 nutzen. Hoffe das hilft auch anderen weiter :) Grüße Vladi
