Without a battery, the shutter won’t fire and the motorized film advance won’t work. [1]

Macro mode is intended for subjects between 0.6 and 1 m away; the normal autofocus range starts at 1 m. [1]

The manual recommends taking the film out before you change the battery whenever possible. [1]
