Without a battery, B and roughly 1/1000 s still work, but the light meter does not. [1]

On the NC1000, the “Meter OFF” button switches off the light meter and locks the shutter release at the same time. [1]

Do not press the depth-of-field preview button while changing lenses, as this can damage the aperture coupling. [1]
