Without a battery, the mechanical shutter still works at every speed including B, but the exposure indicator doesn’t work. [1]
The manual says not to take a meter reading at B or at the flash symbol setting. [3]
You balance the meter by pressing the metering button and adjusting the aperture or shutter speed. [3]
