Without the battery in the film pack, the camera can neither take a picture nor eject the print with its motor. [2]
The camera is powered by a 6 V battery built into the film pack. [2]
When you fold the camera closed, the battery is disconnected from the camera’s circuit and the lighten/darken control is reset to its normal position. [2]
