The Metz 45 flash units are powerful and affordable, and they all have one problem: when the original battery compartment still if it is not broken, then it will be soon.
Two versions are offered:
- Operation with rechargeable Ni-Cd or Ni-Mh batteries from Eneloop, EBL & Co. (7.2 V)
- Operation with alkaline batteries (9 V operating voltage)
With our newly developed battery basket, we are fighting against the fragility of conventional 45-39 battery baskets! This basket is simply inserted into the battery compartment and ensures a stable fit through the clamping.
Advantages that speak for our battery basket:
- Easy handling: The bottom part of the basket can be easily unscrewed to quickly replace the 6 x AA batteries (not included). This way, you always have enough power for your photo sessions!
- Long flash duration: Use high-quality Ni-Mh batteries (e.g. EBL 2800 mAh) and experience 350+ flashes at medium power.
- Flexible energy use: There are two variants available: Ni-Mh or Alkaline

Why are there two versions of the adapter?
The flash has two different contact pairs, which are connected to two separate circuits that provide the voltage required to charge the capacitor. In the circuit designed for 9 V (alkaline batteries), the cutoff voltage is 7 V. This means that the flash will no longer function when the voltage drops to 7 V. If NiMh batteries are used in the alkaline battery compartment, they have a much shorter usage time and are not fully discharged, as they start at 7.2 V instead of 9 V.
Using alkaline batteries in the NiMh battery compartment, on the other hand, provides too high a voltage, which can lead to the heating of the circuits, potentially reducing the usage time of the flash device.
Note regarding the old version of the adapter, sold before February 2025:
All battery packs sold before February 2025 correspond to the new "Alkaline" variant. This means that all previously sold flashes can be used with both Ni-Mh batteries and alkaline batteries, although the performance with Ni-Mh batteries in the old variant is not optimal (see above).
