This PX32 adapter is a mercury-free replacement for the once popular mercury oxide battery PX32 or E164, which was often used in cameras like the Yashicas (Electro 35GL, Electro GSN, Electro GTN, Electro AX, MG-1). It adapts a commercially available and widely available 4LR44 battery.
Mercury-containing batteries like the PX32 are now banned due to their toxicity and environmental concerns. The adapter together with the 4LR44 battery produces 6.0 volts, which is higher than the 5.6 V produced by the original mercury cell. Most devices can handle the slightly higher voltage and work perfectly.
